Grenadiers, or rattails, were frequently seen during the fifth dive of the  2023 Shakedown + EXPRESS West Coast Exploration expedition. This pair was observed at a depth of 1,812 meters (5,945 feet). Grenadiers belong to the order Gadiformes. The gadiform fishes are among the most diverse group of fishes inhabiting deep waters, and in some areas they are the dominant species in terms of biomass, making them of great ecological importance.
