Cultural liason Makoa Pascoe
Makoa Pascoe, who is serving as a cultural liaison during the Beyond the Blue: Papahānaumokuākea Mapping 1 expedition, teaches members of NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer’s crew how to make lei lā’ī of ti leaves. Prior to the ship’s departure, the cultural liaison team prepared a lei lāʻī for placement on the ship’s bridge rail as part of an Oli Pale to seek protection while underway. Many members of the on-ship team hung the lei they made on their stateroom doors.
