One of the primary objectives of Dive 02 of the Papahānaumokuākea ROV and Mapping expedition was to visualize the exposed fault face of the Murray Fracture Zone in order to further our understanding of the evolution of the Pacific Plate in this region. In this image, remotely operated vehicle Deep Discoverer approaches the steep fault wall at a depth of 4,755 meters (15,600 feet).
